Many Harlem residents already despise a bus depot in the middle of their neighborhood - so news that the facility is getting bigger brought them out to protest Saturday. Beginning next month, the MTA will begin expanding the Mother Clara Hale bus depot on 146th St., adding 27 buses to the 123 stored there now. Fed-up residents charge the move will bring more pollution and congestion to the area, which already has five bus depots and one of the highest asthma rates in the city. "We're especially concerned for our seniors and our children who have to live, work and play in this community," said Franc Perry, chairman of Community Board 10. The MTA has said the expansion, slated to finish in 2011, will not add to pollution in the neighborhood because the depot will house cleaner hybrid buses. - By www.nydaileynews.com
