Malaika's blog - September 19, 2006 –The Up South International Book Festival

We are ten days away from the opening of our first Up South International Book Festival 2006 and in high gear, promoting the event and attending to dozens of details. The dates are September 29, 30 and October 1, the last weekend of the month. We had planned to hold all events in a brand new venue, Harlem Stage, the Gatehouse an old city Waterworks facility that has been beautifully renovated.

Out & About in Harlem

The women executives in Chanel and Prada suits knew they were outclassed by the students from the Young Women's Leadership School in Harlem, who joined them at the Pierre Hotel yesterday — dressed in the kilts and knee socks of their school uniform — for the school's first fund-raising event.

REVIEW: Loon's No Friends

No Friends

There's something about the versatility of Harlem rap cats -- from Murda Ma$e's love/hate affair with the game to Killa Cam's switched up flow and ballsy stance as the contender to Jay-Z's throne -- that makes their career progressions hugely entertaining, and Loon is no exception.

Tha Heights- The Voice of Bazooka Bubblegum

Tha Heights Lead Topps Advertising Campaign

For those who don't know, here it is. On August 14th, Topps launched their first advertising campaign for Bazooka Bubblegum. Tha Heights are the voice of the campaign. They can also be seen in all of the commercials. We've had a great response from people all over the world since the campaign started. If you check out our myspace friends and read some of the comments you can see that the Bazooka song is very popular. It has given Tha Heights an opportunity for everyone to hear what they are about. So for those who haven't had the opportunity to see the commercials or the music video, please go to www.bazookajoe.com and check it out. You can also check out our web site, that's still under construction, but you can hear the music @ www.thaheights.com AND go to our myspace page @ www.myspace.com/heightsboyz.  We want to thank everyone for supporting us and if you know someone that knows someone that has some HOT tracks or maybe a HOTTTTT tv show they'd like the guys to star in, let me know. Thanks.

Peace
Pat @ OFFbeat

Harlem's 'Noodle' dance YouTube hit

What does Chris Brown, Ludacris and Diddy have in common?

Chicken noodle soup used to be Campbell's pride, but now it's much more popular because of the Harlem, N.Y., song and dance craze Youtube.com recently made famous. Produced by 19-year-old Troy "DJ Webstar" Ryan and written by his friend, 16-year-old Bianca "Young B" Dupree, the song "Chicken Noodle Soup" seeped into New York's teen scene around Easter.

Pat Jenkins: A true sultan of swing, he graced Harlem's Savoy ballroom dancing scene during the 1930s and 40s

When it comes to keeping a dance floor rocking, hip-hop DJs would have had little to teach the Savoy Sultans, whose last original member, Pat Jenkins, has died aged 94. Pat was a core member, and first trumpet, of this company - one of Harlem's Savoy ballroom special bands in the 1930s and 40s. Whether meshing dancers into an exhilarating rhythmic groove, or upstaging larger, better-known bands, the Sultans invariably came out on top.
