A pilot program of The New York Academy of Medicine identifies 2-year-olds with probable asthma and facilitates treatment. The initiative has significantly curbed asthma symptoms among children in subsidized preschool and Head Start programs in East Harlem and the Lower East Side.

Harlem is Katrina: The Raw Story
Earlier today I learned from the Raw Story website that just $25 million of $2 billion in funding designated for states afflicted by Hurricane Katrina has been spent. Congress, months ago, passed legislation giving access to billions - to date still "unused" by state governments.

When the Spanish Harlem Orchestra received the nod for best salsa album at the 2005 Grammy Awards, bandleader Oscar Hernández could hardly believe it. Harlem's Columbia University must increase funding for Community Impact
Relations between Columbia University and the greater Morningside Heights community have been especially strained recently. With plans for expansion facing criticism inside and outside the University gates, much has been said about reaching out for support from the community. Especially important, some argue, would be a demonstration that expansion would benefit the community as much as it would Columbia. Community Impact is an organization that could help the University do exactly this. Unfortunately, the University doesn’t provide it with enough funding to do so.
